Check of imports

Customs and VDE against product and trade mark piracy

Since January 2009 the VDE Institute has been in close cooperation with the European customs
for effectively combating counterfeiting of your original products and the misuse of VDE Certification Marks. When goods are imported into the European Union, customs officers request on the spot the relevant valid VDE Certificate for verification of each VDE Mark visible on a product. The presented certificate should be found in our current internet certification register, www.vde.com/certificate.

We would like to point out that in future the valid certificate should be included in any consignment to avoid unnecessary delays during customs clearance. On the other hand we recommend to inform your importers and your customers as well about these surveillance measures and to place copies of the relevant VDE Certificates at their disposal.

In view of the extent of counterfeit products and misuse of trade marks reached in the meantime on the European market, we consider this step as necessary and important. Of course we try to avoid any inconvenience for our customers, which may be caused by this protection measure, and rely on your support and understanding.

Please entrust your customer service contact at the VDE Institute or VDE Global Services with any questions you may have on this subject.
