Sustainable networks need a high degree of planning reliability and therefore high technical standards. Within FNN, representatives from e.g. industrial manufacturers, network companies, scientific institutions and public authorities work together in the field of network technology and network operation to create the necessary technical rules or standards.
The Forum network technology / network operation in the VDE (FNN) is a committee of the VDE with private sponsoring and business offices. Members are companies, organizations, scientific institutions and public authorities, with particular interest in the subject areas of network technology / network operation. The aim of the FNN is an adequate technical and safety quality of care. FNN develops and disseminates VDE technical rules (VDE-Anwendungsregeln – “code of practice”) for the operation and safety of transmission and distribution networks as part of the VDE Specifications Code of Safety Standards. Moreover, the FNN gives guidance on the optimum use of resources to maximize safety, supply reliability, environmental friendliness and to achieve profitability. FNN was founded on 01.06.2008.
