The Council of the DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE reconstituted itself for the 11th term of office (from 2011 until 2014) at its meeting on 2 December 2010. Mr Wolfgang Hofheinz was elected to succeed the previous President Dr. Dietmar Harting. Dr. Klaus Mittelbach was elected 1st Vice-President and Professor Dr. Hartwig Steusloff was confirmed as 2nd Vice-President.
Dr. Harting, personally liable partner of HARTING KGaA, decisively influenced the strategic orientation of the DKE as a modern service provider to industry and society in his function as President of the DKE and member of the German National Committee of the IEC and CENELEC over the past twelve years and was appointed Honorary President of the DKE. On the occasion of the award ceremony for the DKE Award (in gold), Mr Günter Verheugen, former EU Commissioner of the DG Enterprise had expressly come to Frankfurt to give the laudatory speech.
The new President of the DKE, Mr Wolfgang Hofheinz, is Executive Vice-President of the Dipl.-Ing. W. Bender GmbH & Co. KG in Grünberg and has been an active member of many technical bodies of electrotechnical standardization for almost 30 years. He will take over presidency of the DKE at the beginning of 2011. In 2006, he was granted the IEC 1906 Award for his outstanding commitment to standardization and in 2008 he was honoured with the DKE Award.
The DKE Council (LA) consists of 30 leading personalities from industry, science and administration, who are appointed from major concerned associations that are affected by DKE work. The Council is the highest decision-making body in the DKE. Its duty incorporates the general control of the DKE and international and regional cooperation in the field of electrotechnical standardization. The President of the DKE, elected by the Council from among its members, represents the DKE both within the organization and in public. He participates in decisions regarding organizational, administrative, personnel and financial issues.

The DKE represents German interests in the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). VDE specifications are mostly based on European standards. About 3,500 experts from industry, science and administration elaborate the VDE Specifications Code of safety standards in the DKE.
