Requirements
European standard EN 71 specifies safety requirements for toys. Compliance with the standard is legally required for all toys in the European Union.

- Due to the chemicals ordinance 76/769/EC together with 2005/84/EC phthalate type softeners are partly restricted for the use in toys (see also organic contaminants)
- PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) are regulated under the GS mark (see also organic contaminants)
- RoHS requirements have to be fulfilled for electrical toys
- As toys are a consumer product also REACH SVHC requirements are applicable
